Nour El Sherbini has become the third female player to qualify for the season-ending 2023 CIB PSA World Tour Finals thanks to her Tournament of Champions victory.
The ‘Warrior Princess’ bested Nouran Gohar in the final of the fourth Platinum event of the season, held in New York’s Grand Central Station.
Her reward: automatic qualification for the end-of-season showdown featuring the world’s top eight players.
Fellow Egyptians Gohar and Hania El Hammamy (pictured below) had already qualified for the season finale, having shared the first three Platinum events between them.
As the respective world number one, two and three, Gohar, Sherbini and El Hammamy would make the event anyway based on their ranking. The remaining five spots up for grabs will be based on end-of-season points.
Sherbini won a close first game at the New York event before injury forced Gohar to retire in the second.
It is her fourth ToC triumph, following victories in 2016, 2018 an 2019.
